Fr. Kakuba Kapia - CEO and the man who started it all

Fr. Kakuba Kapia was born in 1947 and grew up in the villages which now comprise the Kanyike Project. Everyone lived in grass houses and he didn't go to school until nine years old as there were cattle to be looked after and no money to pay the school fees...  He ran away whilst he was still young and was taken under the wing of a priest who saw to his education.

He travelled widely in Europe including spending time in the Vatican, and it was while studying for his MA in Theology at Bristol University that he met Sr. Joan and struck up their long-standing friendship.  He returned to Rome to complete his studies and then to Uganda.  A few years later, having brought Sr. Joan to Uganda to see where he was living, he asked her to help him with the village development project .

He is currently not only the CEO of the Kanyike Project, but also tutor and chaplain at Kyambogo University, radio presenter, traveling lecturer and priest!  He travels to the UK every other year to visit schools that fundraise for Kanyike Project as well as meeting with organisations and people who have either helped Kanyike or who wish to help in any way. He also meets with the trustees of the Kanyike Project. For more information, click here.
