The Leather Workshop and Carpentry
In 1994 the Skills Centre (comprising the Leather Workshop and Carpentry) was established to train selected orphans in the villages so that they can find employment after they have qualified. These workshops not only train others who might not otherwise be able to afford to go to school, but the high quality goods they make can be sold, eventually ensuring the initiative is self-sustaining.

At the moment the carpentry is unable to command the high prices that would be normal in Kampala simply because the people in the surrounding area don't have the money to pay. That said, the work is beautiful and practical, and as such the work does sell well. Julius, the head of the Leather Workshop wants to rent a stall in Kampala to take their goods to a wider market.
The apprentices in the Skills Centre are now also being trained to rear poultry as this can provide them with both food and additional income. Click here to buy a chicken for the project.
