St. Hilda's Women's Group

The Women's Club, established in 1987, is a very powerful group within the project, not least because of the influence that women have in the lives of the Ugandan family. The women in the Club engage in income-generating activities including agriculture, crafts and drama productions.

To help them in these activities loans are given to them by the Kanyike Project, with which the women establish new income-generating activities. In this way the loan can be repaid and then be used to fund further ventures. Their work ensures growth within the local economy, helping the community to become self-sustaining.

Some members have been able to receive a cow (see the Agriculture section or click here to buy a cow for the Project).

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE WITH PREVIOUS LOANS

Teddy said "From the profit of the retail shop I was helped to set-up, I started a nursery and I have 22 children attending. I charge them £3.50 per term."

Noeline trades in agricultural produce taking what she purchases locally to markets in Kampala where she receives a higher price. The money she acquires is used to care for orphans for whom she has assumed responsibility.

Edith grows crops and sells second-hand clothes.
